#1051: MM- Improving Your Water Intake
This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. This entire week we’re focusing on health tips for the New Year. Today’s tip is about improving your hydration. Over 60 percent of the body is made up of water. And your brain composition is 80% water. If you’re feeling fatigued or have a slight headache, you may need more water. Because so much of your brain is water, a lack of water can cause you to forget things or lose your train of thought. The rest of your body may feel crampy or achy. And even though you know you need to drink more water – you may find it hard to keep up with. Here’s some tips. If you’re a bottle water drinker, set out the number of bottles you need to consume per day. You can calculate your ideal intake by taking the number of your weight and cutting that in half. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs, you need 100 ounces. Having the water set out ahead of time will keep you on track. Don’t like plain water? Add some fruit or cucumbers to it.
